Steel Materials - Checking the Properties
Now the gereral structure of the steel framework has been finalised, we must ensure that the properties of the steel are in agreement with our desired model.
To do this:
1. Open the "Properties | Steel Materials" dialog box.
2. Select the 'Edit' tab.

N.B. All of the steelwork in the frame is automatically assigned generic properties when created (i.e. property number '1'). Therefore, if you wish all of the beams and columns to have the same steel properties, there is no need to 'add' a new material, simply editing the values of the pre-determined steel type will suffice. If you wish different portions of the frame to have different properties, you will need to 'add' and 'assign' new materials as necessary.
3. Enter the desired properties in the relevant boxes (in this case, we wish to assign a steel grade of S355 to the elements, therefore a Yield Stress of 355, a Youngs Modulus of 210000 and a Poissons Ratio of 0.6 are entered).
N.B. An adequate steel stress-strain relationship must be used. Preferably EC3, with curves up to at least 2% strain. Bi-linear relationships at high temperature will cause erroneous results.
