Defining Columns Contd...

For the last row of columns, as shown below, a different section type is required (a Fabsec column):

N.B.  These edge columns are asymmetric, so alignment is very important.

To do this:

1. Open the "Add" tab in the "Properties | Beam Sections" dialogue box.

2. In the 'Number' drop-down box, '7' should be automatically generated.

3. Select the 'Type', 'Family' and dimensions of the desired beam.  In this instance, to create a Fabsec beam, we choose 'ASB', 'Custom' and enter the required dimensions as shown:

4. Select the number of (FE) divisions to use in the beam (in this instance,5 in both the local X and Y directions is sufficient).

5. Click the 'Add' button to enter the new section type on to the database.

6. Click the "Attach" tab to assign the new section type to the required elements.

7. Select the required section type (i.e. '7') from the drop down list.

8. Choose the members that require the 'column' cross-section by clicking them on the main screen.

9. Click the 'attach' button.
